9 Mother’s Day Gifts & Activities You Can Do From Home

Since becoming a Mum, I now understand and appreciate my own Mum so much more. What it took to become a great parent with a creative imagination, determination and hard-work, really inspired me to be the great Mum that I am today.

With Mother’s Day approaching and with everything going on in the world right now, I thought it would be a great idea to write a blog on ways you can appreciate your Mum, Wife or Grandparent this Mother’s Day. While it may be difficult to see our Mother’s this year, here are some of my ideas on how to make the most of Mother’s Day this year, while staying at home.

1. Cook your Mum’s Favourite Meal

Cooking your wife or mother’s favourite meal will definitely help put a smile on their face this Mother’ Day. Some ideas I recommend would be having a picnic in the back garden with the kids, having a Sunday lunch or even a homemade hearty meal like lasagna or a pasta dish, which everyone will enjoy.

To top it all off, finish the meal with your wife or mum’s favourite dessert (you can’t beat some chocolate fudge cake in my opinion).

2. Give your Mum a massage, Manicure or Pedicure

I know my Mum always appreciates a massage. Although you may not like doing it, your wife or mum will really appreciate the effort you have gone to in order to please them this Mother’s Day. Mothers love being pampered and they definitely deserve it. For a better idea, you could surprise your wife or Mum with a gift voucher to their favourite salon which they can use in months to come.

3. Offer Some Peace and Quiet

*Calling any dads who might be reading this blog post*

If you have a newborn baby, a toddler or young kids (or in our case, two new puppies that are currently being house trained) -  your wife will definitely enjoy some peace and quiet. Make sure your wife has some alone time to sit back and relax, so she can read a  book or carry out some self-care such as a face mask or skin routine. The simplest things really do work wonders (trust me!)

4. Clean the House for Her

Usually, it tends to be Mum’s who take care of the cleaning duties around the house. So give her a break for a few days and clean the house for her. You could even make sure she gets more help than usual, as it will be appreciated. You could even get the kids involved and run a  competition for who cleans the best.

Or, if there are some home improvements that you have been putting off, use this time to finish  the project - as she will not be expecting this!

5. Get the Kids to Pick Some Flowers

Everyone loves flowers. Personally, the thought of my girls going out of their way to collect their favourite flowers for me means so much more than bought flowers. So, I would definitely encourage the kids to go out on a walk or even into the back garden and pick some flowers for their mum or granny - it will definitely brighten their day!

6. Gift cards!

If you have left it too late to buy your Mother a gift, she will definitely appreciate a voucher for her local salon or clothing store. With local businesses suffering due to online competitiveness, why don’t you support local businesses and buy them a voucher for one of their favourite businesses near them? Women love to get their hair done (I know I do) therefore, a voucher for their local hair salon would be perfect!

7. Have a Movie Night with the Family

Gather your family together in the living room and watch your wife or mum’s favourite movie. Grab some popcorn or snacks and enjoy!

If you can’t access their favourite movie - Netflix is always the answer.

8. Family Game Night!

Get the family together in the living room or kitchen dining table and play some card or board games. You can top it off with homemade pizza, snacks, or even some ice-cream (yum!)

9. A Bubble Bath Does The Trick

To end the perfect day for all Mum’s out there - why don’t you run a bath for them? If your Mum lives with you, or if your wife would do with some TLC, this is  definitely a great option. Bath salts, a relaxing candle or a bath bomb (if you have one) are all lovely gestures to make the experience even more pleasurable for them.

10. Online Calls

If you weren’t able to see your Mother this Mother’s Day - online software such as Skype allows us to talk and see our loved ones from all over the globe. It is a great tool which allows us to keep in touch with our loved ones,  and to see what they are getting up too. I would recommend giving your Mother a call through Skype or Facetime (if possible) and make sure the kids are on the call too, as this will definitely put a smile on your Mum’s face during their special day.

And there we have it! Some of my top tips for spending Mother’s Day at home this year,  we hope you have a lovely Mother’s Day everyone.
