Some of the Funniest Halloween Costumes for Babies

Finding funny Halloween costumes for babies has been a work highlight of my month. Of all of the blog posts I write in the year, I think this is my favourite. For a good chunk of the day, I got to search Google for pictures of babies dressed in Halloween costumes for you. Such hard work!

You’re welcome.

Where did Halloween come from?

Despite its current incarnation. All Hallows Eve wasn’t invented to blag treats from your neighbours. It’s thought to have originated from a pagan festival called Samhain. Samhain marked a pivotal day when the seasons changed, but also observers believed that the boundary between this world and the next became more permeable. Enabling people to connect, or feel connected with those who have passed away.

The church introduced the name All Hallows Eve, (hallows = saints) previously celebrated in May, but moved it to coincide with Samhain. Now All Hallows Eve or Halloween (October 31st) and All Saint’s Day (November 1st) are the occasions we widely celebrate.

Around the same time is also the month of the Jewish festival Yom Kippur. A day of atonement that involves saying prayers for the dead.

The funniest Halloween costumes for babies

I was never allowed to go trick or treating as a child, but I do remember wearing fancy dress and hours of carving pumpkins. Halloween can capture the imagination of children, so it can be fun to get involved as a family.

I’m not the biggest fan of the pre-made costumes you can buy, for many reasons. But, all of these costumes are the kind you can take your creativity out on your kids with.

Someone very talented made this incredible Sushi costume. It looks like it’s made from foam and pom pops. I can’t imagine the amount of patience that went into putting it all together but it looks fantastic.

I’m not sure how long my kids would have been happy to pose as lobsters in a pot either (I assume they were just in there for the photo) but they do look hilarious. If you aren’t a dab hand with the sewing machine, painting your baby red with non-toxic face paint might do the trick, no?

Everyone loves a cute kid in a cute animal costume! Don’t they? This idea is great if you’re taking your kids out to a party in their pushchair or pram. It’s clear there’s no guarantee being dressed as a chicken will prevent either tears or tantrums.

I love this Harry Potter and Dobby tribute costume. I’ve been eyeing it up as something I might even be able to manage to make myself. I’m not sure what the white sock the baby is holding is about, but maybe Harry Potter fans will?

Brett Bara is one very talented lady for creating these brilliant old lady outfits below. I can’t imagine those spectacles would stay on for long though!

With the recent release of the film depicting Marvel’s funniest villain, Joker, it seemed quite fitting for this post. Is this image from Reddit funny, or just quite scary? What do you think?

The craze for drawing cartoon eyebrows on your baby shows no signs of abating. And I can see why. If you really can’t craft a costume to save your life, this is a pretty good alternative.

Perfect for babies who are learning to crawl, all you need is a green babygrow and a paper mache shell and viola!

I adore the Up themed costume complete with a mini walking aid and tennis balls. It’s the details that count!

If you’re certain your baby would throw off their outfit before you finished assembling it, why not have a go whilst they’re sleeping? Unbeknownst to her, this baby is the queen of fancy dress!
