FAQs

Teethers

For which age ranges are our different teethers suitable?

All our teethers are tested from 3 months to 3 years, however we do recommend certain teethers for certain ages. Our Teething Starter Set is the perfect place to start as it includes a Flat Face Teether, Animal Teether and Silicone Finger Toothbrushes which each can be used at different stages of the teething journey. Have a look at our teether collection page for more information.

Can I apply teething gels with the Original Teething Toy?

Yes, the textured bumps keep teething gel in place and get products right to the source of the pain without being nipped by tiny teeth. They're great at reaching the hard to reach backgums and The Animal and Monkey Teethers are also great to apply teething gels!

What are our teethers made from? Are they BPA free?

Yes. Our teethers are made from high quality food-grade, non-toxic silicone and are BPA free.

What is BioCote®?

BioCote® is an Antimicrobial Technology which is mixed in with the silicone during manufacturing and prevents the growth and spreading of bacteria and viruses on the surface of the product. It makes our teethers hygienically cleaner than any other product on the market. It is not just a coating, which can wear off, but it lasts for the entire time your little one is using the teether!

How long should I use my teether for?

You can use your teether for the entire time your child is teething. Just make sure you give it a regular clean.

Can I reuse my teether for my second child?

No. We don't recommend reusing your teether for another child.

How long does shipping take?

Depending on where you are based our shipping takes between 5-14 days. Have a look at our shipping and return policy for more details.

How do I exchange a product from my order?

Please email info@matchstickmonkey.com and we will be happy to assist.

Can I place the teether in the freezer?

All our teethers are suitable to be placed in the fridge and freezer. However, please note that the NHS in the UK does not recommend placing teethers in the freezer.

Can I sterilise the teether carry case?

No. We don't recommend sterilising the teether's portable carry case as it can get damaged or melt. Simply wash using soap and warm water.

How do I clean my teethers?

Please check on the products cleaning and care section for recommended and suitable methods for each teether. Please note different teethers require and are suitable for different methods. We recommend boiling hot water as an effective and safe way to clean your teether or alternatively using a dishwasher with a baby-safe dishwasher detergent.

Bath Toys Collection

How do I clean my bath toys?

Bathtime with a small child is a great moment for fun and play! As well as keeping your baby clean, bathing has many benefits - from cognitive development, to bonding over games. And any baby will love to play with bath toys, but how can you keep your bathtime accessories from getting grimy, or worse, mouldy? Studies have shown that toys that sit in bathwater tend to collect dangerous moulds and bacterias, which can put your little one at risk of infection. Follow our guide to keeping your bath toys clean and safe for peace of mind when bathing your baby…

Sort Through Your Toys

A simple rubber ducky might look innocent, but the hole in the bottom which lets water in and out is a breeding ground for bacteria, allowing mould to grow out of sight inside the toy! Check your bath toys thoroughly and regularly for signs of mould. Look out for any discolouring of the plastic, or an unpleasant smell. Any toy that shows these signs should be immediately thrown out, as once they’re already contaminated it’s much harder to get them back to their original condition!

Maintenance: Rinse & Clean

Once you have deciphered which toys can stay, make sure to keep them clean after every bath. Take a moment to rinse and thoroughly dry each toy individually. If there is a hole in the bottom, make sure to squeeze out all the bath water, refill it with fresh, clean water, and squeeze it all back out. Don’t store bath toys one on top of the other, instead give them each a little space so that they can air dry any additional droplets!

Maintenance: Sterilise

After every few baths, take time to sterilise your bath toys. This can be done very easily using vinegar! Simply mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a bucket and submerge the toys. Leave the toys in the vinegar solution for an hour or so before rinsing under tap water and thoroughly drying. Alternatively, you can also use heat, either in the dishwasher, or in a sink with hot water and soap!

Prevent Mould

Keeping your bath toys clean and dry is the best prevention for mould. Our Bathtime range, for instance, has built-in BioCote® Antimicrobial Protection, which protects toys from mould and mildew. BioCote® is introduced in the manufacturing stage of the toys and doesn’t wear off or leech into bathwater, so it can help to keep your toys microbe-free for longer term use!

Are the wobblers/animal rocks safe for my little one to chew?

We do not recommend letting your little one chew on the toys. They are not designed as teethers.

What are the Bath Toys made from?

All our Bathtime toys are BPA.

Bathtime Wobblers: Silicone & ABS materials. Bathtime Boat Set: Silicone, PP & ABS materials. Bathtime Slide Set: PVC & PP materials. Bathtime Hair Rinser: PE material.

Bathtime Fishing Game and Bucket Set: bio-based plastic material called Wood Pulp.

What is BioCote® Antimicrobial Protection?

BioCote® is an Antimicrobial Technology, that is mixed in with silicone during the manufacturing process, which prevents the growth and spread of bacteria and viruses on the surface of the product. It also ensures that no mould or mildew can develop on the surface of the product.

Eco Friendly Materials

Why do we want to use biodegradable and low-carbon materials?

Conventional plastics, such as fossil-fuel plastics are usually derived from petroleum. This means they use a non-renewable material
that also creates a lot of carbon during production.

Wood pulp on the other hand is a natural and renewable ingredient that uses up less energy and less carbon when its used in production.

Trees planted for harvest absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during their growth and capture a portion of the carbon emissions we want to reduce pollution and energy usage.

Why Organic Cotton?

We choose to use organic cotton for our muslins,
which uses no synthetic chemical fertilisers and pesticides and is not grown using genetically modified seed.

This method of producing the all-natural fibre is also promoting biodiversity and biological cycles of the land it is grown on.
