The Signs of Teething
Teething is a significant step in your baby’s growth and development. While it brings with it it's own challenges, both for parents and little ones, being able to recognize that it has even begun is often the first hurdle. Here is an easy to follow list of some common symptoms to help you through this period.
1. Heightened irritability and restlessness
If your baby becomes more uncomfortable, easily agitated or hard to soothe, it may be a sign that teething has begun.
2. Disturbed Sleep
Due to the pain teething causes, sleeping can prove to be harder than usual. Keep an eye out for any changes in sleeping patterns as a sign.
3. Drooling
If you find there is a noticeable increase in drool, and you are constantly needing to wipe or use a bib, teething could be on its way!
4. Change in Appetite
Emerging teeth and swollen gums can evidently lead to eating patterns and habits changing. Chilled food may be able to provide some slight relief, while softer food can also be more manageable for sore mouths. A useful tip is to put one of our Matchstick Monkey Teethers in the fridge, as the chilled teether can soothe your little ones irritated gums.
5. Visible Tooth emerging
A foolproof sign that teething has arrived is being able to see a tooth under the gum about to poke through.
6. Red and swollen gums
Inflammation and swelling is completely normal as teeth try and push through. Massaging gums can ease some discomfort, helped by one of our Finger Toothbrushes.
7. Rubbing the face
As discomfort spreads around the gums, your little one might show increased touching and rubbing of their mouth, ears and face. The swelling of gums and emerging pain can often spread around these areas.
8. Chewing anything and everything
A baby that is chewing or sucking is often a good indicator that there are teeth on their way, as they attempt to soothe irritation by grabbing anything they can see in sight. Have a Matchstick Monkey Teether handy so that you can save your car keys and fingers from falling victim.
